A little about Ms. Kemp:
I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. When I was in junior high, my family moved to a farm in New Mexico where I learned to herd cattle, plant pecan trees, drive a tractor, and pick all kinds of crops. I quickly decided the glamorous life of riding horses (which you also have to clean up after) was not for me. I attended Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ, and graduated from college in three and a half years with a degree in accounting. I was hired by a corporation that managed and sold memberships to campgrounds across America and though primarily stationed in Sedona, Arizona and San Jose, CA; I had a great time traveling to all the campgrounds from Arizona to northern California maintaining their records.
When the company was moving their offices to San Diego, my father's contracting company lost its accountant, and my father asked me to come and work for him. Though I gained great experience in making this move, I received a profitable offer to become the CFO of a hospital and diagnostic center. During this time, I got married and due to an illness resigned from my position. After recovering, I had two incredible daughters and worked from home.
When my daughters were old enough, I began substituting at their school and decided I loved teaching more than accounting, Being a part of the learning community and watching my students grow and overcome challenges was very rewarding...not as lucrative (well paying) but definitely more fulfilling. With the desire to continue to teach, I went back to school to receive my teacher certification. In my pursuit of a permanent teaching position, I became certified in business, general education k - 8th grade, family consumer sciences, speech, and high school ELAR. My first position was as a permanent substitute for ISS, then I taught English, reading, and child development.
Though teaching takes a great deal of my time; some of my favorite past times are spent with my two girls and puppy. I love to hike, garden, bake, and read. But my all time favorite thing to do is body surf. For this reason, my favorite vacation destination is Laguna Beach, California.
Other favorites include the color pink, coffee, church, white cake with whip cream icing, donuts, Mexican food, and my students.
I hope by the end of the year I come to know as much about you, and that the journey through the great novels, articles, vocabulary, and reading skills prepares you for great success.
